Introduction

Welcome to the SAM Administration Guide.
This guide aims to provide an overview on how to configure SAM in order to start using the software.

First Time Login

Once you have installed SAM and launched the SAM Management Console, the default browser of you operating system will be used to open login page.

For first time login, you need to activate the administrator login credentials.
Click on Activate Administrator Login
Please use the following credentials to activate the super user
Username: VMMANAGER
Password: EBIEXPERTS
Click Login.

Enter License

Once logged in as the administrator, click enter license.

Copy and paste the license key, Save. You will automatically be logged out of the software and you will need to login again to start the configuration.

When you try to login again you will be prompted to enter a new username and password for the administrator user. Important! Keep the credentials safe as you will not be able to reset the user again. Click Save when you are ready to login.

SAM Configuration

Login with the administrator account, you will by default land on the Active Control page. Click on Menu in the top left and select Admin to access the SAM configuration.

Servers

Connect to an existing Qlik Sense server where SAM API will be able to retrieve Users and Apps from the QMC.
Click on the + plus sign to add a new server.

Server: Tick enabled to allow the connection the server
Name: Name of the Qlik Sense server, any name can be used to identify the server in SAM
URL: The Qlik Sense Server URL that SAM will connect to, generally in the intranet
External URL: The Qlik Sense Server URL the users will connect to
Authentication: The method used to identify the user on the Qlik Sense Server. SAM will connect using Certificates on port 4242 for QRS REST API and 4747 for .NET API bypassing the PROXY.
Is default server: You can connect to multiple Qlik Sense servers in WIP. Enable to make it the default server.
SAM Auto Gen Script:
Impersonate: Choose in which situations to impersonate the Admin User Rights

  • Never: will use Logon User for all actions,
  • For publish: will use Logon User for all actions but server user for publish
  • Always: will use server user for all actions

Username: Set the Admin username
Set Password: Set the Admin password
Import Certificate: Once you have exported the certificate from the QMC, you need to enter the client.pfx file.
Save

How To Export Qlik Sense Certificate

Go to the QMC and choose the certificate menu, enter a machine name and press export
Certificates will be exported in the
"C:\ProgramData\Qlik\Sense\Repository\Exported Certificates"
folder. Note that if you have multiple nodes it can be on any of them.

Import Users

You can import Users from the QMC directly into SAM

Users

Add User by clicking the Green + button

You will be presented with the form to create a new User
Logon Name: Your Qlik / AD Username
First Name: Your name
Last Name: Surname
Description: Used to identify your role
Business Unit: Choose which Business Unit you belong to
Email: Used for the SAM admin to contact you
Phone: Used for the SAM admin to contact you
Password: Same as your Qlik / AD password
Confirm Password: re-enter to confirm password.

Imported Users From Server

You need to assign a User license to the Users that you imported from a server. Select the User and click on the tab Rights, assign both licenses to the User.
